The MetaScan is a body composition analysis tool that I use in my practice, with every client. It is an excellent tool for tracking and providing motivation, accountability and raw data to allow any necessary tweaks in diet, exercise or lifestyle.
Beyond the Scale: Why Body Composition Counts
Initially you may think it is about showing you how ‘fat’ you are, or how dehydrated your cells are, but this shows us much more important data.
Systematic dysfunction due to diet, lifestyle, genetics or environment can lead to serious metabolic diseases and disorders such as type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), cardiovascular disease and more.
Early symptoms of this include bloating, stomach fat, fatigue and lethargy, hormonal imbalances, mood issues, cravings, disrupted sleep, gut dysfunction and immune dysfunction among other frustrations that you may not even be aware are related to improper body composition.

Why a MetaScan is better than the scales alone
The scales are just one number and one part of your ‘weight’. For instance, the scales may tell you that you have gained 2kg which may lead to your feeling defeated and disappointed and say things like “it’s not working I give up” or “I feel really down, I have gone up in scales this week!” – like many of my clients do when weighing on their own.
A body scan will allow us to see that perhaps the weight is lean muscle mass and better hydration and a loss in adipose tissue (fat), in turn bringing reassurance and satisfaction allowing drive and motivation back towards your goals.
What’s so great about muscle? “I don’t want to get bulky!”
It is actually very difficult to gain muscle, especially for women so do not fear any ‘bulk’, it is likely to make you feel more toned, which is the common goal for most people.
The importance of muscle though, goes beyond aesthetics. Muscle being a metabolism. We can lose 3-5% of our muscle mass every decade starting as early as 30 years old. As we move through life, we want to enjoy hikes with ease or kick a ball around.
But simply being able to run around with kids, getting up and down off of the ground or grabbing a towel from the top cupboard is largely due to your muscle mass and function.
And no, to debunk you, ‘weight’ changes aren’t necessarily a factor of age- lean muscle mass is. We just need to focus on good nutrition and fitness, at any age and stage of life.
Consistently tracking body composition allows us to monitor progress with accuracy. For those focused on muscle growth, the MetaScan reveals increases in lean mass over time. If the aim is fat loss, it provides precise measurements of fat reduction.
Additionally, for individuals experiencing fluid retention—often associated with underlying health conditions—the report detects any changes in fluid levels.
